About Us
Hi, I’m Scot Campbell, founder of Sharing the Good News.
People often ask my wife and me why we feel so strongly about sharing Christian literature, both through this organization and through a sister organization, Little Church Library. For me, the call to share is deeply personal.
Christian literature freed me from addiction. I tell that story in this video, but today, I’ll summarize so I can share what happened next…
I was once given a gift that totally changed my life.
At the time, I was working at the Novant Cancer Center and experiencing depression and suicidal thoughts. In the midst of that season, a cancer patient who I frequently transported shared a book with me. It was The Purpose Driven Life.
As a result, I gained a new purpose, and eventually found freedom from my addiction. I couldn’t help but share with others some of what I had learned, which I knew could open doors to new hope for them. I began going to homeless shelters, hospitals, and YMCAs with devotionals and copies of this same book that I had purchased at local thrift shops.
I also began researching where I could get more of these materials and learned that a number of local churches did not recycle leftover literature; they simply put it in their dumpsters.
I looked for other distributors of Christian literature and found most had retired or gone out of business, except for one in Shelby, NC. I decided to visit this location and was truly amazed by what I saw. A small church in the middle of nowhere was receiving thousands and thousands of books in their parking lot. They would be loaded onto pallets and shipped to Love Packages in Decatur, Alabama.
This, in itself, required a great deal of effort, since boxes of books had to be moved around for other activities in the church. A group of volunteers, some of whom were elderly, were handling this ministry and using the church as a “warehouse,” which involved constantly shuffling materials to and from , all by their own manpower.
I felt God was prompting me (strongly!) to get involved. Now, it’s my mission to raise funds for this ministry, to help purchase a Mobile Church Library to aid collection efforts and build a simple warehouse where sorting, storing, and sharing with Love Packages can be more efficient.
The truth is, trying to raise funds for this ministry is difficult, but I know that God’s will shall prevail. We ask that you prayerfully consider helping us.
Let’s put God’s word out in the world instead of in a dumpster.
Blessings,
Scot
